The work begins
The work has begun on trying to get bids on the house. Making initial calls to subcontractors to get ballpark numbers has already proved frustrating. Today, we met with some trades to bid foundation work. The trouble all started when there was a translation problem. Not too sure if we were on the same page, but wow at the price. But what are you really going to get for that price? Do your homework, verify that the people who will be working on your project, are on the up and up. It's too much of an investment to risk shotty workmanship.

Not ready yet..

Well, the day has finally come, where my little boy is stepping into adult hood. Nevermind that he is already 6' 1", and his voice has changed. Today I wrote the dreaded check for driver's ed. I was hesitant of course, but I am ready to see if he takes a different approach to life after this. He seems to live in the theory that things will fall into his lap without any of his own effort. Little does he know, this is a test. A test of his own desire to become a more responsible young adult. Don't get me wrong, he is a good kid, not much trouble, minds pretty well. He's been riding motorcycles since he was 3. He has a good since of driving, and I think he understands what can go wrong if he doesn't respect the vehicle, and watch for other drivers. Now, we wait...I'm sure there will be much more to come on this topic.

We're off to the races, or so to speak. We have been busy over the holidays trying to get the property ready for our little cows, building fence, digging holes (yes, I can now run the Tractor), smoothing roads (if you can call it a road), and digging the tank out to make it bigger for someday when it finally rains enough to hold water again. We've had lots of great help from our friends, Todd, Den, Scott, & Mike in giving us free labor when they have time. It has been a great help! We have a nice deer population, but Andy didn't quite fit in the time to go hunting, although his friend Todd did get an eight point out there. We hope they'll be bigger and better next year.
We did get a wonderful Christmas surprise when Andy & Den went out to fetch our cows from the pasture they have been on to bring them to Florence, they found 2 brand new calves with them. Healthy little bugers, and cute as a button. So now we're ranchers! (without a clue) We hope to buy some more calves soon, to grow our little herd. The Boys are doing well, and enjoy riding their motorcycles on the property. The like all the berms and try to do jumps on them. Just what a mother wants to hear........
We would really like to have a big Barbeque out there sometime soon, but may have to hold off until we have water and facilities, unless you're not too afraid to drop trowel behind a bush....I'm really good at that.....
For now, we are working on bids for septic, water well, and electricity, and hoping for more rain!
We're open to visitors anytime, but beware, we may put you to work!!
